how to use Facebook marketplace to furnish your home
Facebook Marketplace is not for the faint of heart. However, it’s a great way to furnish your home with high-end vintage pieces on a budget. While it’s full of both heartbreak and wonder, if you stick to our tried and true tips, you will be well on your way towards collecting amazing, high-quality pieces for your home at an affordable price point.
Train your algorithm. The same algorithm that is collecting data and probably ruining our brains is also trying to get to know what kind of furniture you like! I don’t make the rules. When you come across a piece of furniture that you like but don’t need, hit the little flag icon and it will save to your favorites. The algorithm will start showing you more things in that style, making your searching that much more successful.
Perfect your communication. Let’s say you find the dresser you’ve been looking for for months, it’s in great condition, it’s 15 minutes away and the price is within your budget. Don’t mess around! Fbmp can be incredibly exhausting and competitive, so when you find a gem, it's time to be direct with your outreach. My typical message is something like “I’d love to pick this up X or anytime X, let me know what works for you.” We talk more about ways to sweeten the deal in our fbmp workshop, available when you join House Friends.
Get creative. Recently I was looking to replace my dining room chairs but still was making some other design decisions in the room. I didn't want to make a financial commitment on a set of chairs that would make me feel stuck with a certain kind of design. So instead, I looked to find something I liked that was a great price, so that once my design plan evolves, I can flip out my chairs, and skip the buyer’s remorse.
Be patient. Your vintage pieces are going to shine when they’re highly curated to fit your taste and your home. Take your time finding the right pieces for you.
We have so much to say about FBMP that we have a workshop all about it! Access Everything We Know About FBMP and the rest of our workshops when you join our Design Club, House Friends.
